Norwood (formally known as Asphodel–Norwood) is a Central Ontario municipality in Peterborough County. Though Asphodel and Norwood were originally two separate municipalities, they were joined together in 1998. This area is rich in history, from its indigenous origins all the way to their strong background and involvement with hockey in recent centuries.
Just a short drive from the city of Peterborough, Norwood residents enjoy living in a small, friendly community but can easily access more populated areas and amenities.
Communities in Asphodel-Norwood include Norwood, Hastings and Westwood.
Norwood’s symbol is the Asphodel flower, appropriately due to its official municipality namesake of Asphodel-Norwood.
The first minor league hockey team formed in the 1920s and has been an important part of this township’s history ever since.
If you are a water lover or a boater, there are plenty of options to experience life by the lake at Norwood’s many boat launches and piers. Most locations also include parks, greenery, areas for picnics and even some horseshoe pits!
There’s no better way to spend a sunny day than getting outdoors and getting active! Fortunately, Norwood has nine parks to explore and many more just a short drive from the Norwood area. In 2022, it was announced that a 5-Year Parks and Playground Plan was put in place to add additional improvements and upgrades to all parks in the Norwood area.
Norwood hosts plenty of opportunities to get outside, including exploring two popular trails. The Mill Pond Forest Trails offers three trail routes, depending on your experience level and the length of trails to explore. There’s also the Peterborough-Hastings Trans Canada Trail, accessed just South of River Road in Norwood.
Norwood is famous for the Norwood Fair, showcasing livestock like horses and cattle, with plenty of entertainment, vendors, dog shows and even a parade! The fair draws in crowds from all over Ontario. Norwood also hosts several local farmer’s markets around the townships, in addition to being in close proximity to many more. If farm fresh food and local artisan vendors are something you enjoy, there is so much available!
